Persistence of Resistence
80 x 70
Acrylic and nail polish on canvas
2022
A melting hand of resistance added to a distinctive reproduction of Salvador Dalí's painting Persistence of Memory symbolizes the persistence of human defiance in space and time of human history. In Dalí's painting, the clock melting on the branch of a dead olive tree next to the beach by the cliffs should be a sign of the relativity of space and time in the dream universe of decay – apart from many other symbols this masterpiece evokes. Or, as the author of the painting said himself, it is nothing more than the "camembert of time". My interpretation of the work represents the resistance in space and time, the endurance or the persistence of manifestations of defiance in human history. A modern dress referring to the desire for change in the present time was given to the melting hand of resistance by application of my red nail polish to her nails.
The work is part of the “Let's Start A Revolution” series.
