Persistence of Resistence

80 x 70

Acrylic and nail polish on canvas

2022

A melting hand of resistance, added to a distinctive reproduction of Salvador Dalí’s Persistence of Memory, symbolizes the enduring nature of human defiance in space and time of human history.

In Dalí’s painting, the melting clock draped over the branch of a dead olive tree near the beach and cliffs signifies the relativity of space and time within a dreamlike universe of decay—among other interpretations this masterpiece evokes. Or, as Dalí himself put it, it is nothing more than “the camembert of time.”

My reinterpretation represents resistance transcending space and time—the persistence of manifestations of defiance throughout human history. To bring this concept into the present, I gave the melting hand of resistance a modern touch: its nails, painted with my own red nail polish, symbolize the ongoing desire for change in today’s world.

The work is part of the “Let's Start A Revolution” series.
